Innovating Respiratory Diagnostics: NEFES-DX Project

At Anatolia, we are constantly advancing molecular diagnostics to address pressing global health challenges. Our latest initiative, NEFES-DX Project, is designed to deliver a comprehensive and automated diagnostic solution for respiratory infections. A primary driver behind this innovation is the urgent need to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial drugs. Recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the most critical threats to global public health, AMR leads to ineffective treatments, increased disease spread, and a higher risk of severe illness. The rapid emergence and spread of AMR are primarily accelerated by the inappropriate and excessive use of antimicrobials. 

The Challenge in Respiratory Infections  

Respiratory infections are often caused by multiple agents, making clinical diagnosis challenging. Delayed and inaccurate diagnoses frequently result in the empirical use of antibiotics. This not only contributes to the alarming rise in resistance but also causes significant time loss and financial damage within healthcare systems. Ensuring universal access to quality diagnostics and appropriate treatments is an essential strategy in the fight against AMR.

Anatolia’s Contribution: NEFES-DX Project 

In response to the urgent need for strategic innovation in diagnostics, Anatolia is proud to introduce NEFES-DX Project. Supported by 1501 Industry R&D Projects Support Program, the project officially commenced on July 1st. NEFES-DX aims to develop a fully automated, multiplex qPCR panel integrated with a domestically produced Universal Transport Medium (UTM).

The project focuses on creating a “single sample-single flow” solution for respiratory infections. The proprietary UTM is designed to keep nucleic acids stable at room temperature, greatly facilitating the sample collection and transport process.

Simultaneously, the multiplex qPCR panel will allow for the detection of bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens, alongside crucial AMR markers, in a single comprehensive report. 

Advanced Automation and Future Vision  

Aligning to provide high-quality, integrated diagnostic solutions, NEFES-DX system is designed for seamless automation. It will be fully compatible with Anatolia’s advanced UNIO 448 automated platform.

By integrating the UTM and multiplex panel with UNIO 448, the project aims to establish a highly efficient “sample-to-result” workflow. This integration will provide laboratories with significant workload and cost advantages, while delivering faster and more accurate diagnoses for patients.
